Minutes of Peace and Social Concerns Meetings
Minutes Peace and Social Concerns Committee
February 28, 2010
Present were: Ken Magee, Tony Swan, Faith Marsali and Kate MurpheyThe Friends Garden Project was not chosen for funding from a national grant source for this years garden.
A meeting has been planned with Patty Case from the Extension Office on March 15th, to discuss collaboration this year on the Friends garden project and other related topics. Tony suggested an idea of helping community families start their own container gardens. He anticipates that Mountain Valley Gardens will again be a partner with whatever garden project is decided upon
Ken, while investigating resources for doors for the Friends House, has met a business owner who is also very interested in supporting community gardens. He has 3 acres of land near the airport he plans to develop for community members to come and cultivate a small plot for themselves.
PALM suppers are going well. Everyone is invited to come and share a meal. Volunteers are needed monthly for a few hours, the second Tuesday evening of each month. Plans include advertising the Friends food pantry at the supper.
Faith will contact the Yearly Meeting and fill them in on our activities during January, designated as peace month in the Meetings of the Yearly Meeting.
We again plan to dedicate time during Meeting to write letters to our legislative representations asking for action in addressing hunger issues.
We will plan a meeting of neighbor churches for this spring, perhaps in April, probably to be held at the Friends House.
