Minutes of Peace and Social Concerns Meetings
Minutes Peace and Social Concerns Committee
March 28, 2010
Present were: Ken Magee, Tony Swan, Faith Marsali and Kate MurpheyPlans are underway to work with Fairview School and the OSU Extension Office for another garden camp this summer. Perhaps this year the camp will meet twice a week for fewer weeks. More planning meetings will be occuring. One always important topic is working on new ways to get the word out about the camp and the garden.
Tony is also considering offering a community class at Fairview encouraging folks to start home gardens, perhaps container gardens.
Fairview school has been awarded 1 of 3 School Wellness Awards. Congratulations Fairview!
We are again planning on sponsoring an "Offering of Letters" based on recommendations from "Bread for the World" campaign to end local and global hunger. During an upcoming Meeting we will receive support and help in crafting individual letters to our legislative leaders on ways they can represent us and vote for changes that will make a difference to people who are poor and food insecure. A tentative date for this will be May 2nd.
We are hoping to once again sponsor a meeting of Fairview and Downtown churches to discuss what's happening in our community, what the needs are, and how we can work together and support one another in doing "holy work" in our town. We are thinking of a Saturday afternoon meeting sometime in May.
Though we have not been able to talk with Stephanie Van Dyke, we hope she will be able to present at a Peace Supper sometime this spring about the clinic she started in Uganda.
April 17 is the date of the Forgotten Children of Uganda forums at Matteos and OIT. See Dan Sidey for details.
The Tuesday evening PALM suppers have been well attended and Ken reports that the chicken soup is great. Please sign up to volunteer. See Jill Sabastian for more details.
Nest P&SC meeting: April 25th, Sunday at 9am.
