Minutes Peace and Social Concerns Committee
October 30, 2011
In attendance:: Kate, Ken, Faith

We opened with silence and prayer.

1. We discussed our recommendations from our committee for the 2012 Friends budget.

It is as follows:

Fairview School: 3% of our gross income (Of course, we will not actually know what this figure will be as we do not know what our income will be for next year.)

Community Helping Fund: $500.00 (We talked about widening awareness of this fund to the Mills neighborhood. We affirm that the fund be used in conjunction with ongoing relationship with those who have need of it. We discussed the possibility of donating a small amount to Mills School but will need to talk with the principal, Mike Heron, first, to see where needs are and what they are already doing to meet these needs. We feel with the Janskys and Sideys in the Mills neighborhood that there will be that personal contact that we so affirm and value.)

Food Pantry: $200.00

PALM dinners: $1500.00 CORRECTED FIGURE

A new Friends banner: $200.00 (We will solicit ideas at some point in the future for an effective saying we want to project to our community.)

Budget total that we are recommending to the meeting: $2400.00 (CORRECTED TOTAL)
(This does not include our Fair Trade purchases which in reality goes out of the Friends fund but is reimbursed as items sell. Our desire is NOT to make money on fair trade but to inform people of faith based purchasing that supports economic justice.)

2. We decided that we would like to have an educational and challenging report from our committee monthly as to ways we might support issues locally and globally regarding peace and social justice.

The meeting was adjourned just prior to meeting for worship.

Respectfully submitted by Faith Marsalli, clerk pro tem
