Minutes Peace and Social Concerns Committee

In attendance:: Kate, Dan, Faith

Faith opened by reading Jan McClellan's letter to the editor.

We discussed our connection with Fairview School and the possibility that they may close the school due to budget restraints. Dan is on the school board task force regarding researching city school closures and the impact this will have on their community. Dan said he is strongly advocating for Fairview to remain open. We talked about writing letters to the school board and to the newspaper to express the value keeping Fairview School in the neighborhood. No one volunteered to do this from the committee.

Faith will ask Tony about a Fairview family to adopt for Christmas.

Kate will give a first word on December 12th about Fair Trade

January is Peace Month across NWYM. We discussed using Circle of Friends to talk about our peace testimony. Faith is willing to facilitate this.

The meeting was adjourned just prior to meeting for worship.
